Meadow’s family is pretty poor, but they’re not the minority. Most families live on houseboats and some try to find shelter wherever they can, but after a certain hour it’s unsafe to be out at all. Killers and hoodlums are out at night, hunting and trying not to be hunted. In Meadow’s world, killings are a normal occurrence each day.
Zephyr doesn’t have a family; he’s dirt poor and works as the cleanup crew for people who didn’t survive. Every night, though, he isn’t himself and he’s starting to put together the pieces of what he thinks is much bigger and scarier than even he can understand. One night Meadow and Zephyr meet in the most unusual way, and both of them are trying to stay alive as well as together. But is that possible without either of them getting hurt? In this blood-bathed, harsh world, Meadow and Zephyr are thrown into the heart of the violence and have to battle to make it out alive.
Thoughts:
Lindsay Cummings is the coolest. She is who I aspire to be when I grow up and she is one of the nicest people on earth. Her debut was none other than fabulous. I loved the idea and the story even though I’m not one who loves blood *shivers* but this world is so different and cool; it turns our everyday world into this horrible place where you have to protect yourself walking home at night. I love the characters; Meadow is pretty Tris/Katniss-like and Zephyr-he has a cool name. LOL. The cover is gorgeous and I want to pet it all day. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read book 2!
