An Interview with Pete Souza, Author of Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents

Hello and happy holidays! A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to interview Pete Souza before his signing at BookPeople. Souza was the Chief Official White House Photographer for U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. It was such an incredible experience hearing about his years of photographing President Obama and learning about his current work on Instagram. If you don’t already follow him, you totally should.

His newest book, Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents, is a compilation of Tweets from Donald Trump’s Twitter contrasting Souza’s photographs from the Obama Presidency. It was a jarring and symbolic collection and a unique way to throw shade; there is no commentary, the juxtaposition between the pages speaks for itself. I definitely recommend picking up a copy to read, and further encourage you to vote! I registered to vote for the first time at the event, which was so exciting for me. I thought it was the perfect opportunity; I mean, what a better time and place to do it? Here is a photo!
