Twisted Fate by Norah Olson

Ally and Syd are sisters, but have nothing in common. Ally is the perfect girl, the one who picks blueberries, bakes and studies all night. Syd, not so much. Syd is the more reckless, explosive person who hangs out with her friends, skateboards, and is too smart to have to study. Nothing strange happens in a small-town in Maine – until Graham Copeland moves in next door. Graham is unusual, and films videos of kids that people buy for lots of money. While Syd suspects something is fishy, Ally falls for him and soon everyone else does as well, possibly even a part of Syd. In this 80% love triangle, 20% psychological thriller, this happy shmappy book with a dark twist will leave you in the dust.
My thoughts:
First thoughts after finishing: Hmm.
Second thoughts: Wait, WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK JUST HAPPENED? *asks mom* WUT. HUH? Oh. Ha. HUH?
Ok. This book threw me a curve ball. The first 80% was AWFUL. I’m sorry, but the love triangle and the insta-love and the fact that there’s a person named Ginny Potter in this book? Wow, I didn’t like it. The ending saved it from having an much lower rating. The last 50 pages or so is where everything happens. Wow. You will not believe it. I have to give you at least SOME credit for that, Norah Olson. There are two characters in this book I despise: Ally and Graham. Ally picks blueberries and bakes and is so perfect you have to wonder if there’s ANY seventeen year-old like that. I didn’t like her from the beginning, and I still don’t. Graham. Wow. I can’t. No. The insta-love was AWFUL. This kid moves in next door, main characters chat with him for an half hour, then 10 pages later everyone is falling for him. Like that “I was just attracted to him. I don’t know how or why, I mean he’s hot and all…” so on and so forth. The end really blew my face off. I don’t know how I expected it to end, but I was extremely surprised by how it finished off. I did like the ending. It was revealing and kinda shed some light on everything but I felt like it was rushed. SO MANY THINGS were jammed into the last 50 pages and I wanted less romance and more psychological thriller. If you read this book, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THOUGHT because I am EXTREMELY curious what you thought of it. Overall, I’d have to give it 2.75 out of 5 XanderStars because I hated most of it but the end was fantastic.

I have similar thoughts. I would probably 1.5-star it, because I didn’t even like the ending that much. I just didn’t find many redeeming qualities in it at all!

I completely skipped over the Ginny Potter thing. How did I not realize that? I didn’t have the same problems you had with the book because I knew Ally and Syd weren’t exactly trust worthy and I thought at least one of them was a little crazy (funny, right?). I wasn’t focusing on instal-love, etc. because I was just so focused on picking the story apart and figuring out exactly what was going on!
I don’t even get what happened in the book! Was listening to it in audio and I guess that was too many perspectives because I have no clue what happened. If someone wants to let me know, I’d appreciate it.
