Adelina Amouteru has always been frowned on by society. She is a Malfetto, unworthy of being as high as everyone else. The plague scarred her face and gave her that title. Her father despises her and tries to release the darkness inside her in hopes that she has a power, like some lucky Malfettos. But one day she decides to run away, from her sister, from her cruel father. Before she knows it, Adelina is convicted and about to die. Then her power is revealed. Adelina has a unique power and is welcomed by the Young Elites; but where will her loyalties lie? Will she turn on the Young Elites to save someone she loves desperately? Marie Lu’s first venture into fantasy is an extraordinary, well-written novel.
Thoughts:
This was a legit book. Marie Lu is slowly conquering the world with her fabulous writing, haha, and she’s not stopping. I read this book before I read Legend (strange, but true) and I really did enjoy this one. The characters kept getting mixed up in my head and it was a little tough and also the story was slow at times. Other than that, the writing made the book and I LOVED Adelina. Never have I read a book with a character with SUCH DARKNESS. It was a lot of fun đ The descriptions and detail and setting made me so wrapped up in the world that it with the writing both made me overlook the few issues I had with this book. The ending for me was a little confusing and made me curious of how book 2 will be plotted, but regardless I am SO PUMPED for The Rose Society. I think I enjoyed Legend more based on the fast-paced plot and the world but this one is really close to being as awesome as Legend was in my mind. If you are a fantasy or dystopian fan, DEFINITELY give Marie Lu’s books a try!

Great Review! I thought pretty much the same thing that you did about this book. I’m really excited for the Rose Society because these characters are so interesting!
