Kristin Lattimer has somehow offhandedly been crowned “Homecoming Queen” and is now the talk of the school. Life is great; until her world shatters. Kristin is intersex, she has male parts but looks like a girl. Now Kristin is starting to question her whole life and the worst thing that could happen happens. Her whole school finds out, and soon she is just trying to avoid the nasty comments and trying to cope with her new life, her boyfriend dumping her, and her friends turning their backs on her. A heartbreaking but fantastic debut, None of the Above emerges as a landmark for diverse books.
Thoughts:
Oh, this book. This book is such an emotional ride, and such an eye-opener. I learned so much from this book and it broke my heart to really see that apparently, people are stupid enough to think that being different is a bad thing. Everyone is unique their differences shouldn’t be ridiculed. I wanted to personally go up and throttle some of these characters and knock some sense into them because KRISTIN IS JUST LIKE YOU. SHE’S HUMAN. Her friends aren’t there for her which is horrible, but she is very resilient. I loved the writing and just the whole story; I haven’t read anything like it. I.W. Gregorio is definitely a rising debut WNDB author who will get lots of love for this book as well as her future works, and I can guarantee I’ll be picking up more of her books in the future.
So glad to see your review for this. ❤ Yeah, people were truly so horrible to Krissy in this book, it was ridiculous. Ugh. I can't wait to read more of I.W. Gregorio's books! This has me excited for her future works.
Honestly these types of books make me super uncomfortable. It’s probably because my grandmother is so religious and she’s instilled all this weird mentality in me, but I think I’ll give this book a try. I love books that are eye-opening and reflective. Great review!
